Why You Should Consider Unaccompanied Baggage Services

Many company executives and individuals travel periodically, though some travel extensively for work or pleasure. It can sometimes be a hassle to travel as most airlines only allow small amounts of baggage. If you find yourself needing more items than is possible to be with you on the flight, consider unaccompanied baggage services.

Airline Rules

Many American airlines only allow you two pieces of baggage with maximum weight allowances and it can be difficult to nearly impossible to meet those requirements, especially if you are traveling for an extended period. Airlines in Asia, Europe, India and the Middle East allow 23kgs of baggage. In some cases, the airline will allow you extra luggage for an exorbitant fee, though fewer airlines are allowing these services at all.

Most airlines have specific rules about the types of items that can be in the luggage, mainly due to security concerns after 9/11. In most cases, you can’t have more than three ounces of liquid, which can include mouthwash, shampoo, conditioner, liquid soap and moisturizers. Even if you could pay extra on the airline to have your extra baggage, you won’t be able to have more than the allotted amount of liquid. In some cases, you can have certain items like cutting instruments in checked baggage, but not carry-on baggage.

How Unaccompanied Baggage Services Work

With the strict rules imposed by airlines, you have two options. You can stuff as much as you can into your allotted approved baggage and be without certain things or you can use an unaccompanied baggage service. For a small fee, you can use the services of unaccompanied luggage companies, who will send your bags to the address you specify. Though timing is of concern, you will usually meet your baggage when you arrive to pick it up.

Finding a Company

If you need unaccompanied baggage services, you will want to find a company that provides international options, so no matter where you travel, you can use the same services. It is also important to ensure that the company will handle customs formalities. Though there will be certain restrictions, even with these companies, you will be able to ship almost anything you need.

Restricted items can include sports equipment, musical instruments, guns and anything explosive, including dynamite and fireworks. Other such items can include fuels, lighter fluid, lighters, chlorine, fire extinguishers, spray paint and aerosol cans, other than personal care items.
